We’re so happy Disney’s Minnie Van Service is back! If you haven’t heard yet, the Walt Disney World® Resort offers a private vehicle service called the Minnie Van Service. It’s operates the same way as both Uber and Lyft (and actually runs on the Lyft app). Here’s why we love it!
1. It Runs When the Buses and Monorails Don’t
Some of the best dining experiences in Disney World are located at the resorts, but how do you get there for an early breakfast when the buses or monorails aren’t running? Or how do you get back to your resort from Disney Springs after a late-night movie? Now you have a very easy solution — a Minnie Van! The service operates from 6:30am until 12:30am.
2. It Drastically Cuts Down on Your Travel Time Between Destinations
Before Minnie Van was introduced, cast members always told us to allow one hour of travel time to get from our resort hotel to the parks (or from one park to the next). And if we were going from our resort hotel to another resort hotel, we were told to allow an hour and a half for travel time. An hour and a half!
The reason for these lengthy travel times was bus scheduling. (To go from one resort hotel to another you’d have to take two buses — one from your resort to a park, and then a second from that park to the other resort.) And even though the My Disney Experience app now shows bus times, the travel time hasn’t been reduced.
The beauty of the Minnie Van service is that it cuts your overall travel time down to about twenty to thirty minutes (depending upon availability). That means thirty minutes to an hour of more play time!
3. The Quality of the Ride
Every Minnie Van is 6-passenger Chevy Traverse, equipped with two versatile child seats (at no additional cost). These child seats are top-of-the-line and can be either forward facing or rear facing. And they can serve as simply booster seats (with or without the back).
And if you have a guest with a mobile disability, there are larger Minnie Vans equipped to carry wheelchairs and EVCs. You just need to specify that when requesting your Minnie Van in the Lyft app.
4. They Can Get You Closer Than a Taxi or Uber
That’s right — Disney World has created specific drop-off and pick-up locations to get you as close to where you’re going as possible. Sorry Uber and taxi drivers!
For example, at the Magic Kingdom, the Minnie Van will drop you off at the same location as the buses — right in front of the park! At Disney’s Fort Wilderness, they can drop you off directly in front of Pioneer Hall — that’s even closer than the buses!
5. They’re Driven By Hand-Picked Cast Members
Right now, all of the Minnie Van drivers aren’t just cast members, they’re hand-picked cast members. As they drive you to your destination, they’ll be happy to offer any insider tips, tricks, or advice they know. All you have to do is ask! They might even provide you with some Disney trivia along the way.
6. The Benefits Outweigh the Cost
While a Minnie Van is more expensive than an Uber or Lyft ($25 around the Disney World® Resort or $150 to MCI), the benefits of the shortened ride time, the quality of the car and seats, and the level of customer service provided by the Minnie Van cast members, makes the Minnie Van service a no brainer. (You can also use your Lyft credits if you’d like.)
And in case you forgot, Disney World® Resort hotels are now charging for overnight parking. Using this service as opposed to getting a rental car will actual save you money!
There you have it — the top reason we love Disney World’s Minnie Van Service. You can learn more of the details here.
