7 Reasons Why Adults Love Disney Cruises

Have you wondered why adults love Disney Cruises? When people think of a Disney Cruise, they forget that it’s not just for kids. Disney is one of the top cruises for adults too, and there’s plenty of reasons why. Here are the top 7 reasons:

1. Rotational Dining

Unlike other cruises where you’re stuck in the same dining room for your entire voyage, Disney pioneered rotational dining. Each night you’ll dine at a different restaurant, with your servers following along with you. By the second night of your cruise, they’ll have your drinks waiting for you and will have already taken care of your dietary needs and preferences. But, that’s not the best part.

Besides unparalleled service, Disney isn’t strict about one appetizer, one entrée, and one dessert per person, per meal. Can’t decide which appetizer you want? Order them both! Can’t narrow down the dessert choices? Try them both!  And yes, this even works with entrees too. (Although I wouldn’t do it every night.)

And if you’re lucky, your server might even add some entertainment to your meals as well. Our last server provided us with riddles to solve every night with the rest of our table mates.

2. Adult-ONLY Activities

I expected a Disney cruise to offer plenty of activities onboard, but was pleasantly surprised with the number of adult-only activities. From adult-only bingo and movie-quote trivia to karaoke, there was an abundance of activities geared toward adults. And let me say, movie-quote trivia was HARD.

But perhaps the most popular of all the adult activities onboard is the game show ‘Match Your Mate.’ Three couples – who’ve been together a varying amount of years – are asked questions about their relationships. While they answer, their significant other can’t hear their response. The couple who gives the same answer to the most questions wins. And it’s the answers that make this not to be missed!

3. Senses Spa & Salon

While Senses Spa & Salon isn’t run by Disney (it’s run by an independent contractor), the services and amenities are second to none. They offer almost thirty different treatments for both men and women, from facials and Swedish massages to acupuncture.

The highlight however is the Couple’s Choice – over two hours of comfort and pleasure, including a 75-minute spa treatment of your choice. Included with the reservation is a tea ceremony, a bathing ritual of your choice, and a foot cleansing ceremony. And it all takes place in a private Spa Villa – complete with private verandah, personal whirlpool, open-air shower, and a roman bed with canopy. Cue the romantic music!

4. Adult-ONLY Entertainment

The first time I went on a Disney cruise I was skeptical about Disney’s version of ‘adult-only’ entertainment. After all, it’s Disney – how ‘adult’ can it get? I was pleasantly surprised. Disney employs a wide roster of variety entertainers, from slapstick jugglers to comedy hypnotists, and they all know how to perform for an adult-only crowd. You won’t find crude or rated ‘R’ humor, but you will find plenty of PG-13 laughs and innuendos. Of course, the best moments stem from audience interaction – especially with cruisers who’ve had one too many ‘drinks of the day.’

5. Fine Dining

If you’re craving a little extra romance, then Disney also offers fine-dining experiences for a nominal charge. On all four ships, there’s Palo – an upscale restaurant featuring Northern Italian cuisine; and on the Dream and Fantasy, there’s also Remy – an upscale restaurant featuring French cuisine, inspired by the Disney-Pixar film Ratatouille.

Remy is more upscale than Palo, with Palo costing around $40 extra per person and Remy $100 (without wine pairings). Remy is the equivalent of The Grand Floridian’s Victoria and Albert’s and comes with a bit of ‘pomp and circumstance’ whereas Palo is still a fine-dining experience, albeit more laid back and casual.

6. Tastings and Mixology Classes

Yes, you read the heading correctly. Disney cruises offer a variety of mixology classes and tastings during the sailing. On the last cruise we went on, there was a beer tasting, wine tasting, bourbon tasting, champagne tasting, cognac tasting, martini tasting, rum tasting, whisky tasting, tequila & margharita tasting, and mojito tasting. That’s a lot of tasting!

We’ve experienced the mixology class first-hand and it was a whole lot of fun. You learn about (and taste) five different types of drinks: a mojito, a margarita, a layered shot, a martini, and a specialty cocktail. The bartenders also ask trivia questions; and if you get the answer correct, you get a free drink!

7. The Disney Difference

This is hard to explain without experiencing it first-hand. Disney just has a much higher standard when it comes to customer service.

For example, on our first Disney cruise, one of our table-mates asked our server for Crème Brule, which wasn’t on the dessert menu that evening. Our server told us he couldn’t have the kitchen prepare it that night, but he could the next night. As promised, the following night, at dinner, our table received… ten Crème Brules! They couldn’t make just one, they had to make an entire batch.

Here’s another example. On our last Disney cruise – a Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise – my husband and I had missed the opportunity to sign-up for the gingerbread house decorating. We went to the customer service desk and asked to be placed on a wait list. Not only did they fit us in, but the cast member that helped us also sent a care package up to our room ‘just because.’ It contained a bottle of wine, popcorn, and chocolates!

I’ve never heard of or experienced that level of customer service any place else but on a Disney Cruise (or other Disney vacation).
