If there’s one scenario that causes more heartache and tears during a Disneyland or Walt Disney World vacation right now than anything else, it’s not securing a boarding group to ride Rise of the Resistance.
If you’re not familiar with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it’s one of the most technologically advanced theme-park attractions ever built. And, in terms of storytelling, it’s one of the finest. I would wager is probably the best theme park attraction in existence today.
That said, you can imagine how disappointing it would be for your family to spend upwards of at least 5k on a Disney vacation, and not secure a boarding group to actually ride it. That’s why we have a video that doesn’t just tell you, it shows you how to secure a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance.
Tips for Securing a Boarding Group for Rise of the Resistance
Arrive just early enough to get in before the park actually opens.
There’s no need to sleep deprive your entire family and start the day off grumpy. Arriving at *cough* 5:45 a.m. is a waste. If you’re taking the Disney Skyliner, we recommend getting in line at least thirty-minutes before it opens, which is usually an hour before Hollywood Studios opens.
Find a secluded area in the park to secure your boarding group.
The more people you’re around, the more cell phones you’re around. And the more cell phones there are, the worse your cell phone signal will be.
This critical step is the single biggest reason why families fail to secure a boarding group for rise of the resistance. They get to the park early, and head off to rope drop for Slinky Dog or Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. They’re around a swarm of other people, and everyone’s single competes.
Turn off your wifi.
While it’s great that Walt Disney World has free wifi, it’s highly unreliable — especially when you’re trying to secure a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance and everyone else in Hollywood Studios is too.
In this instance, it’s better to turn off your wifi and use your 4G or 5G signal instead. Hopefully, you have a reliable carrier.
Close out of your My Disney Experience application right before 10 a.m. (or 2 p.m.), and right before the clock strikes, reopen it.
You want to ensure that your My Disney Experience app has registered that you’re actually in the park and that your ticket (or magic band) has been scanned. While it does sometimes work without doing this step, we still recommend it to be safe. (Just make sure you do this about 2-3 minutes before go time.)
Lastly, make sure everyone — and I do mean everyone — in your party has the My Disney Experience app on their cell phone with the ability to make FastPass selections for the entire group.
Then, when the time comes, every single person in the party should be trying to get a boarding group simultaneously. You will increase your chances exponentially.
Using these tips, you should be able to secure a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance!
