What You Need to Know About Oga’s Cantina

While I’m not the biggest Star Wars fan in the Galaxy, I have to admit — I’ve loved everything about Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World since it opened. So, when I finally had the chance to score dining reservations for Oga’s Cantina, I was pumped!

Like snagging reservations for Cinderella’s Royal Table and Be Our Guest, getting reservations for Oga’s can be a challenge. We used these tactics, and they worked.

The Basics

Oga’s Cantina is located inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World and inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland. For this review, I’m focused on the Hollywood Studios experience.

Oga’s is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, with longer operating hours during peak times of the year. So, be sure to check the hours for your upcoming visit. You will definitely want to make reservations in advance; because as we mentioned, this is an extremely popular dining experience.

However, there is a misconception floating around that this is either a “sit down” restaurant or a “quick service” establishment. It’s neither. It is very much a bar with a mixture of alcoholic and kid-friendly drinks, with a few food items on the menu for good measure. You should view the food as more or less ‘snack’ food.

This is probably one of the reasons that Oga’s does not take dining entitlements — including snack credits. If you’re using the dining plan (which does have many benefits) you want to know that.

The Ambiance

On the Disney World website, Oga’s is described as “the local cantina, where bounty hunters, smugglers, rogue traders, and weary travelers of all ages come together to refuel, enjoy music, and conduct meetings—no questions asked.”

That should give you a hint of the ambiance. The idea is that Oga’s is the local watering hole of Planet Batuu where all intergalactic travelers — the good, the bad, and the ugly — stop to refuel before heading off to their next destination. Like everything else in Galaxy’s Edge, the Disney Imagineers outdid themselves with the theming in decor. You can get a great sense of this in my video above.

In particular, I loved all the neon, LED lighting, the animatronic droid playing the music, and the water/bubble displays surrounding the bar. However, that wasn’t the best part. The best part was when our waitress came over and informed us of Oga’s rules (also in the video above).

My favorite part of the rules was: “No fighting, no biting, no ripping off limbs, and… NO STARING.” It was at this distinct moment that I felt like I should have bought a hundred-dollar lightsaber. Just in case.

The Food And Drinks

The price of the food and drinks ranges from around $6 to $20, with most of the specialty alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks costing closer to the twenty-dollar range. As mentioned earlier, there’s not that many food choices to choose from.

Because we were there during breakfast, we tried both breakfast options — the Mustafarian Cinnamon Roll and the Rising Moons Overnight Oats. Stefani, the other Travel Genie I was with, ordered the oats which was basically a greek yogurt dish with seasonal fruit. She liked it, but didn’t rave about it. I did love my cinnamon roll though! It had a unique, fruity sauce on top which really made it delicious in a way I’d never expected.

For our drinks, we tried the Blurrgfire (Odwalla® Lemonade, Pomegranate Juice, and Habanero-Lime) and Jabba Juice (Simply® Orange with Pineapple, Kiwi, Cantaloupe, and Blueberry Popping Pearls). Both were delicious. I’m a fruity kind of guy — what else can I say?
