7 Things To Know About Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort

When you begin to think about your next Walt Disney World vacation, you’ll have a ton of options to consider for lodging, with over twenty different resorts just on Disney property alone! Having all of these options can make things seem overwhelming, so we’re going to give you the juicy details on one of our favorite moderate resorts that will be sure to help you narrow down your options.

What’s the Theming Behind Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort?

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside was designed to reflect the Antebellum South along the Mississippi River and is divided into two main sections: Alligator Bayou (bayou) and Magnolia Bend (mansions). In addition to these two different styles, each building within the sections uses different materials based upon its location on the river. There is a certain sense of relaxation and charm you will find here that you won’t find anywhere else in Walt Disney World.

Alligator Bayou has 1,024 guest rooms with over sixteen buildings, styled as rustic, weathered lodges, with sixty-four rooms per lodge. Magnolia Bend has 1,024 guest rooms with over four buildings styled as southern-plantation, grand-manor homes, with 256 rooms per mansion.

In addition to its southern charm feel, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside also includes interior theming paying tribute to Disney’s Princess and the Frog.

What’s Transportation Like from Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort?

Like all Disney resort hotels, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside offers complimentary buses that can take you to all nearby Disney theme parks. However, this resort also has a second option for those looking to get to Disney Springs; the Water Taxi! Take in the scenery and relax with the amazing breeze as you sail through the waterways to Lake Buena Vista. Most routes run on fifteen to thirty minute intervals.

(Please note that no luggage or alcohol of any type is permitted on Disney watercraft. All strollers must be folded and stowed out of the aisle. Medical strollers for disabled Guests will be treated as wheelchairs.)

GENIE TIP: If it looks like it is going to rain any time soon, we wouldn’t recommend taking the water taxi. If it begins to rain and thunder or lightning appear nearby, they will stop the boats and drop you off at the nearest dock (which could be at another resort, requiring you to take a bus to get back).

Is There a Pool at Port Orleans Riverside Resort?

Yes! This resort features a three-plus acre hideaway with an old-fashioned swimmin’ hole and sawmill slide. This pool was inspired by the story of Tom Sawyer, Ol’ Man Island. It even features a catch-and-release fishing hole and stories told around an evening campfire. For the adults, don’t forget to visit the nearby Muddy Rivers pool bar and lovely hot tub.

What Recreational Activities are Offered at Port Orleans Riverside Resort?

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort has some extra magical recreational activities that you won’t find at most other Disney resorts.

For the younger crowd, you will find an arcade room and a three acre playground. At night, kids can come together to roast marshmallows during the “Campfire on de’ Bayou” (located on Ol’ Man Island by the playground from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., 7 days a week). On select nights, you can enjoy a Disney movie outside at the Magnolia South Pool deck (8:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings).

During the day, you can explore their mile-long jogging trail, or even rent a one, two, or four person bike. Bicycle rentals go for $9 per hour or $18 per day, while surrey bikes are $20-$22 for thirty minutes.

You can also experience bass fishing at Port Orleans Riverside Resort with a guided catch-and-release excursion from the Riverside Levee Marina. Old-fashioned cane pole fishing is also available at the Fishin’ Hole on Ol’ Man Island for $6.
